I'm looking for a book I read in the 1970s, although it could be older. Ed Emberley, Ed Emberley's Drawing Book: Make a World. Marco is the name of the boy in a number of Dr. The main characters were I think a boy and a girl and of course this mansion where I believe a scary old lady lived - the children were more intrigued by her than afraid as I remember. Mouse's friend Ezzie also tries to help him to avoid the bully and his friends.

Girl reads an entry a day about Mom's first love. As one person said you “really get inside the head of a sheep.” Yes, this struck the rest of us funny too, but as they explained, the sheep would be going about their detecting business, discussing the possibilities, when “oh, look, clover!” and stop to graze. They sneak down the ingredients and the measurements and mail the recipe. I have more to add that I couldn't figure out how to fit before. If you could find any one of the books, I would appreciate it.

The books have been reprinted by Bethlehem Books. If You Like John Grisham... (Ames PL, IA): Author, title, webcat link, summary for about 15 titles, in title order, from If You Like Carl Hiassen Booklist (Overbooked): 'Fast paced fiction with an edge, a vivid local setting, crime fiction elements and tinged with black humor. I received it from an english teacher as a gift, and he warned me that it was no longer in print (...but that was in 1982 so hey, maybe it's been back?). alas, I can recall only two of those stories since I didn't have it long enough to read much more. one story: a kindly, elderly couple live in an old apartment (?)and, I think, live in pretty meagre circumstance. they've befriended a child, and a day comes when they leave, exiting the apartment (and earth) via some secret country that is under a bed. as you can see, I barely recall the details, but I've a clear sort of image of the child lying on the floor, saying farewell to the people as they wave to her (?) from their beautiful, bright land. there might also be some sort of treasure they left behind for the child, but of that I am *totally* unsure. the other story I remember more clearly. an alien ship lands on a lawn/field (?) in a town. the aliens that come out are small, friendly, with distinctly large and pointed teeth. at first the townsfolk are afraid (I think, I don't recall that part), but eventually they realize that these creatures are no threat to them at all. it turns out that the aliens are in dire need of help: they are slowly starving to death. the townspeople respond to their plight, bringing them every kind of food they can think of, but the aliens cannot digest any of these offerings. helpless, the townspeople despair, and the alien people seem resigned to their plight. one of the aliens carries its crying infant out of the spacecraft, and when a person compassionately touches the baby, it bites him/her(?).

I read this series as a young girl and would like to obtain a set for my daughter. Everyone is looking for eyeglasses, but in the end, they find that the scientist created "anocular" device. The second clue is an envelope which is given to Grandpa’s Grandma who puts the envelope in her apron, and due to a family emergency, promptly forgets it until it is already ruined in the laundry. There was probably some sort of romance but I don't remember any details. I do not think it even has words. The various people are doing various day to day tasks and somehow in the end there is a flood of the apartment house and all the residents end up meeting each other and having a big party - or something like that!!!
